REVIEW: Nico (The Leaves #3) by J.B. Hartnett

Synopsis

When I was a boy, I met a girl.
She didn’t know it then, but…
She changed me.

Now…..I am a man.
A man who is broken by the stories of the women who come to me.
They are my birds with broken wings.
I help them heal, help them to make them strong, so they can fly free.
Lark changed me. Loved Me. Made Me Strong.
With her, I am free.

I write…
To the girl of the past.
To the girl of my present.
And, the girl of my future.

My Thoughts

We were introduced briefly to Nico in the first two books in the series, Inky and Cole. We knew that he was Inky's tattoo artist, the man who created the amazing tree and leaves that covered her back. We also knew that women went to him for tattoos that would help them heal from some tragic event in their lives. I was so excited to read Nico's story and get to know him better. And, I was not disappointed.

Nicholas (Nico) Grant is the owner of Coastal Ink. He is a brilliant tattoo artist, but is picky about who he tattoos. He tends to only tattoo women who come to him and want a memory of how they have overcome a (usually) tragic event in their lives. Most of the women are victims of abuse. Nico has such a huge heart. He listens to their stories, tells them that he is there for them if they need him, and doesn't take their money.

Nico is also searching for something. He wants to meet a girl that will take his breath away and settle down. He wants to find the peace that he hasn't felt since he was a child, and then it was only for one night, with a little girl he met while he was at work with his mother.

Lark is that girl for Nico. But deep down, he is still searching for that little girl from his past.

I LOVED Nico! I mean REALLY loved him! I loved reading his story and learning more about him. He has such a huge heart. He is kind, caring, funny and it's hard not to find him amazing. His character was extremely realistic and easy to relate to. I think there are going to be a lot of 'Team Nico' people after they read this book ;)

The supporting characters, as diverse as they were, were also fantastic. Again, they were realistic and easy to relate to. Most of them we were introduced to in a small way in Inky and Cole's books, and I enjoyed learning more about them through Nico's eyes.

The story itself was fantastic. It was engaging and never had a dull moment. There was always something going on, but it wasn't over the top.

Once again, J.B. Hartnett has written a fantastic novel. Nico will have you smiling and laughing. You will get angry, but you will also empathize. And most likely, you will have some tears. If you have read Inky and Cole, you definitely need to read Nico's story. You won't be disappointed!

I received an ARC as part of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
