Synopsis

Despite unanswered questions about the nameless entity that tried to steal her life, Kaylyn returns to the only kind of normal life she knows and takes on a new paranormal case.

After investing everything they have in a farm, an unsuspecting family discovers that their problems run much deeper than the poor upkeep of the house and land. Can Kaylyn and the other investigators uncover what's behind the growing malicious activity? And how will they all deal with new warnings from beyond the divide?

Excerpt

Kaylyn grimaced and swirled the cold coffee in her cup. “News travels fast. And it wasn’t technically my fault. The thing came after me because I was born and no one even cared to warn me.”

“But you beat it—that’s also big talk around the offices,” Leon said.

“Barely,” she mumbled, not caring to voice her doubts on the matter—something told her that breaking her bond with the entity wasn’t exactly the same as beating it. “Jonah… he deserves most of the credit.”

Leon cracked a smile, watching her intently. She knew that assessing look, he got it just as he was about to make a big break in a case. “It seems he made quite an impression on you.”

“Don’t,” she said, chugging down the rest of the cold coffee. She pushed herself up, but before she could step away, Leon captured her wrist.

“That doesn’t have to be a bad thing,” he said, still grinning.

“I just want to get back to relative normalcy.” Except that what was normal for her, usually came with heaps of man trouble. That part, she was perfectly willing to leave out from now on.

Leon stood and draped an arm around her shoulder, walking her back to the coffee nook. “Normal is overrated. I’m looking forward to working with you all again, though.”

“I’m sure you won’t have any problem getting Jonah’s approval—aside from the fact that you trained me.”

Leon crossed his arms over his chest and exhaled heavily. “That is the only major blemish on my record.”

My Thoughts

Immediately after finishing Beyond the Divide I was giving it 4 cows. Before writing this, I reflected over the book for a while and decided to up my rating to 5 cows. Here's why...

To keep it short and simple, I honestly enjoyed it a lot more than Fractured Legacy.

There was so much crammed in to this installment of the series! There was always something happening - whether it was Kaylyn and Cole on their assignment, what was going on in their personal lives, or something that was happening at the office, it was action packed! Even during the quieter moments in the book my brain was still working overtime! 

I adore Kaylyn, and her character seemed to grow so much throughout Beyond the Divide. She begins to trust more and open up about what she is feeling. 

We are given more on Cole and Jonah's personal lives in this book. It was great learning more about them, and with the next installment in the Fractured Legacy series, Grave Absolution hopefully coming soon, I can't wait to see what direction the story will take.

Beyond the Divide was a captivating story. I was constantly thinking, trying to predict the possible outcomes and I thoroughly enjoyed being back with these characters. 

If you have read Fractured Legacy, you really need to read Beyond the Divide and continue Kaylyn and Cole's journey. You won't be disappointed.

Author Interview

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a lifelong Ohio-girl and I’ve been coming up with stories for as long as I can remember, and in elementary school I began writing them all down. Writing is currently my full-time job, but I also share my time doing research with my ethnomusicologist husband or hanging out with our ferrets.

What were your favourite books as a child, and have they influenced the way you write today?

I was obsessed with R.L. Stine’s Fear Street books, I went to the library every week looking for new books to read. They definitely drew me toward the paranormal and inspired me to follow my love of writing.

What is a typical writing day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you follow a regular routine?

I never manage to stay on a regular schedule. I work on my stories every day--if I’m not at my computer, I’m brainstorming or jotting ideas down on my tablet or in my notebook. But in general my routine is harassing my writing partner, having sticker wars, and writing whatever pops into my head.

Do you set a daily writing goal?

Not regularly. If I’m on a deadline, dedicating full days to writing, I aim for 10k, but on regular days I just write as long as I have something to say.

What motivates you to write?

Anything and everything--but mostly my desire not to go insane. If I don’t write the characters rebel and never shut up.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

I hate endings, they take me four times as long as the entire book.

Have you ever suffered from writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it?

No. If I get stuck on one story, I start another and just keep running.

How did you come up with your book title(s) and/or series names?

Okay, maybe that’s the hardest part. I just brainstorm words mostly until I find something that fits. It has to be the right word(s) with the right feel. A few times something clicks right off, and others I’m halfway through the novel before I figure it out. Series titles are even worse since they have to reflect far more than a single book.

Do you have favourite character from your own book(s) and why?

Nope. It’s tempting to answer with whatever character is most active in my head at the moment, but that’s just because they’re taking over my brain.

Can you describe your writing style in 25 words or less?

Erratic

If you were to write an autobiography, what would it’s title be?

The Peasants Revolt because I had a dream in high school that all of the voices in my head revolted because I wasn’t paying attention.

What are your current favourite books and authors?

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness and Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill are the ones I always go back to. I still love some classic R.L. Stine from time to time, too. I just picked up a couple of his older books at a library sale.

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?

It’s not really unique, but I’m a gearhead. Sexy cars are my weakness, and one day I’m going to set up a place so I can rebuild classic cars.

Skye Callahan is an Ohio-girl who has spent a lifetime chained to the imaginary worlds of the characters who live in her head. In elementary school she began writing down these characters' stories to share with her friends and teachers. Although the paranormal was always her area of focus, she has recently followed her interest in BDSM and dark romance to venture into other realms.

When she isn't spending time with the voices in her head, she loves spending time with her husband and two ferrets.
