My Thoughts
Red Hill took me a long time to read (almost a month). Not because I couldn't get into it, but I unfortunately had reading obligations that I had to put Red Hill aside for. With that said, I did really enjoy the book.
We are given multiple view points - Nathan, Miranda and Scarlet. It was great being able to see things from each of their perspectives, although I felt it deterred me from connecting fully with these main characters. I did connect with them, but not as deeply as I would have liked. There were quite a number of supporting characters too. These characters being woven into their view points took the focus away from the main characters a little.
In true Jamie McGuire style, her writing did not disappoint. It was engaging and realistic, and I don't think I know anybody that doesn't believe a zombie apocalypse will happen sometime in the future. If I'm ever involved in one, I'd like to hope that I meet people just like the characters in Red Hill. Although diverse in their personalities, they all came together with the common goal of survival.
